Dog Killed in Brooklyn Park Fire

A dog was killed and another was injured when fire damaged a kennel and garage on Wednesday night in Brooklyn Park.

Just after 5 p.m., Brooklyn Park and West Metro firefighters were called to the 6600 block of 75th Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they reported smoke showing from the attached garage. Crews kept the fire from spreading to the home.

Deputy fire chief Todd Seitz told KMSP that a heat lamp near the dog kennel ignited the fire. The fire quickly spread to the garage.

Four residents escaped a Christmas morning house fire in Long Prairie where a firefighter was injured.

Long Prairie firefighters were called to the 200 block of 2nd Street North about 6:30 a.m. WCCO reports that the four residents, two adults and two children, escaped and met firefighters outside the home.

The fire caused significant damage to the two-story home.

According to WCCO, a firefighter was injured in a fall. He was transported Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

“She smelled smoke in the middle of the night. Her husband went downstairs and saw a fire in the kitchen of the home,” according to WCCO.
