St. Paul firefighters were called to a downtown apartment building this morning and found it flooded after someone tampered with the standpipe. The water damaged most units in the building.

Crews were called to the Sibley Court Apartments at 484 Temperance St. about 7:30 a.m. and found water cascading out the front door.

They made their way to the top floor of the five-story building and found the standpipe system vandalized.

“It was a cruel act of vandalism,” St. Paul Fire PIO Steve Zaccard said.

Crews worked feverishly to stop the flow of water to the floor below.

Dozens of apartments received damaged. Several units had three or four inches of water on the floor.
