April 16 – We have an update on Saturday night’s manufactured home fire in Fridley. A car drove over the supply line as crews were slowed by high winds in battling the fire.

Firefighter’s were called to the scene at 1079 North Circle at 9:30 p.m. and when firefighter’s arrived they found the structure charged with smoke. The resident and his dog were not home when the fire broke out.

According to Fridley Fire Chief John Berg, crews ventilated windows on the B-side of the structure and deployed their hoselines through the front door on the A-side. Flames were then venting from the window on the B-side that was being fanned by a strong North wind.

“Conditions inside did not improve and the interior crew reported they were having difficulty advancing,” Berg said. A backup hoseline was positioned to protect the first crew.

As crews worked to find the seat of the fire, a car ran over the supply line. The hoseline broke at the coupling.

Berg said crews were then pulled out and extinguished the fire from the exterior. A total of three 1 3/4-inch hoselines were placed into operation and the new Tetra KO firefighting gel was used with the first 500 gallons of tank water.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and crews are still working to pinpoint the exact cause.
