June 29 – One person was injured when two cars collided head-on over the Mississippi RiverĀ  in Minneapolis on Wednesday night.

About 8:30, Minneapolis Police, Fire and Hennepin EMS crews were called to the Third Avenue Bridge for a personal injury accident.

Engine 1 arrived to find two cars in the eastbound lanes of the bridge, about midspan. One occupant was still in the vehicle.

Firefighters helped the EMS crew package the patient and checked the vehicles for any hazards.

Hennepin EMS crews transported the patient with non-life threatening injuries , according to Hennepin EMS Spokesman Christopher Kummer.

June 28 – Lake Johanna firefighters battled an intense blaze that burned through several vehicles on a car hauler on Tuesday monring.

Station 1 and 4 crews were called to the scene, on Highway 10, north of Interstate 694 in Arden Hills around 7 a.m.

When he arrived, Chief 1 — Tim Boehlke — found heavy fire showing from the 18-wheel hauler carrying seven vehicles, including cars and pickup trucks.

Ladder 4 arrived and firefighters stretched two hoselines to knock down the bulk of the fire.

Boehlke said crews then used portable ladders to access the vehicles on the second deck of the truck. They doused any hot spots and overhauled the fire.

Engine 4 and Tanker 2 supplied Ladder 4 with water during the firefight and overhaul operations.

The fire started in one of the hauler’s tires and quickly spread to the cargo, Boehlke said. The fire spread to five vehicles.

June 28 – Fire crews responded to numerous locations in Coon Rapids to clean up a hydraulic fluid release from a garbage truck on Tuesday.

The truck left hydraulic fluid spills from Hanson Boulevard and Highway 242 to 113th Avenue NW and Martin Street.

Coon Rapids firefighters were initially called to a reported fluid spill at Hanson Boulevard and Northdale Boulevard around noon.

Rescue 2 arrived to find a large area of fluid on Hanson at the Highway 10 overpass.

Due to another spill at Hanson and Robinson Drive, Station 3 was requested to respond.

It was soon determined that the truck leaking fluid was stopped at 113th Avenue and Martin Street. Command requested that Station 1 be dispatched to that location.

A duty crew callback was initiated to staff the stations and fire crews returned to service just after 1:30 p.m.

Coon Rapids Police and the Anoka County Highway Department assisted with traffic control and cleanup.

Lake Johanna Firefighters Called to Van Fire

June 3 – Fire crews were called to a stubborn vehicle fire in Shoreview on Friday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m., Lake Johanna crews were called to Rice Street and Interstate 694 for a reported vehicle fire. They arrived to find smoke showing from a minivan.

As crews deployed the attack hoseline, the rear window failed and flames started leaping from the window. Firefighters deployed two handlines to knock down the stubborn, smokey fire.

MAY 19 – Roseville Fire Department crews responded to aĀ  six-inch natural gasĀ  line leaking at the intersection of Rice Street and County Road B at around 11:00 a.m. today.

Roseville Engine 31 arrived to find a 6″ gas line that was damage during the road construction project causing natural gas to leak into the area.

Fire crews closed down Rice Street and County Road B traffic for more then a couple ofĀ  hours, causing significant traffic issues for commuters.

Two Gas Main Breaks in Fridley, Roseville

May 19 – Two major gas leaks are causing traffic headaches and evacuations in the North Metro.

The first incident occurred in Roseville at the intersection of Rice Street and County Road B, where the Highway 36/Rice Street construction is taking place. A six-inch main was hit while construction crews were working around 11 :30 a.m.

Fire officials are asking that drivers and onlookers avoid the area. Already a tough area to navigate because of the entrance and exit ramps for Highway 36 as well as the intersections of Rice Street and County Road B are closed.

They expect to be on the scene for several hours as utility works control the leak.

Around 11;45, Fridley Fire crews were called to the 2 1/2 Street and 58th Avenue for a gas main break.

A six-inch line was broken, possibly by crews on a backhoe, and crews from CenterPoint Energy are on scene evaluating.

At least one hoseline has been stretched as a precaution.

MAY 14 – Coon Rapids Fire crews responded to a single car rollover today at Westbound Highway 10 on the Hanson Boulevard exit ramp.

Coon Rapids Engine 2 and Allina EMS crews evaluated the occupants who self extricated prior to arrival.

It is unknown if anyone was transported by Allina EMS from the scene.

Passersby Rescue Man from Vehicle in Minnetonka Pond

May 5 – Two passersby pulled the man to safety after his vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a pond in Minnetonka on Thursday.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Highway 169 near Minnetonka Boulevard. The four-door car was about three-quarters submerged.

Traffic cameras showed two passersby assisting the 39-year-old driver from the vehicle.

Hennepin EMS Ambulance 425 and EMS Supervisor 410, along with Minnesota State Patrol and MNDOT HELP crews arrived shortly after.

Hennepin EMS Spokesman Christopher Kummer said his crew packaged and transported the patient to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol said the driver appeared to have suffered a medical condition, which caused the crash.

Traffic Camera Catches Vehicle Fire, Strut Explosion

April 21 – A MNDOT traffic camera captured firefighters working at the scene of a vehicle fire and shows a volatile explosion of what appears to be a strut shooting from the blazing wreckage.

The fire, on Lexington Avenue at Interstate 694, happened around 8 a.m., according to KMSP-TV.

At 2:50 into the video, what appears to be a strut shoots from the right side of the vehicle, narrowly missing a responder. Seconds later, firefighters are seen on the left side of the video and stretching a handline.

April 4- Traffic near the 494/35E interchange was halted after a tractor-trailer hauling plywood rolled over on Monday evening.

Eagan Fire Stations 1 and 2 were alerted to the accident around 8 p.m.

Units arrived to find that the tractor-trailer rolled over on Interstate 35E. The truck had exited from Interstate 494.

Fire Chief Mike Scott said crews contained a motor oil leak and assisted Minnesota State Patrol with lighting the scene while crews cleaned up the spill.

No injuries were reported, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
