April 16 – Firefighters doused a mobile home fire around 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to 1079 North Cir. NE. for a reported fire and police officers arrived to find smoke showing from the unit at the Fridley Terrace Mobile Home Park.

Crews stretched handlines from Engine 3 as flames started to erupt from the structure and Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View Fire crews were called on mutual aid.

The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes.

April 10 – An early-morning fire that gutted a mobile home claimed the life of a man inside the structure.

Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View firefighters were called to the 9100 block of St. Petersburg Street NE around 2 a.m.

They found the structure fully involved.

April 5 – At least one person was injured in a Spring Lake Park house fire on Tuesday evening.

Around 7:40 p.m., Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View (SBM) firefighters were called to the 1100 block of 80th Avenue NE for a house fire.

Units arrived to find heavy smoke from a one-story dwelling. Chief 7 requested Allina EMS for one victim with unknown fire-related injuries.

Two handlines from Engine 1 were used to knock the fire down.

The fire was placed under control in about 20 minutes.

March 29 – We have an update from yesterday’s reported barn fire in Blaine.

Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View (SBM) crews were called to 12224 Sunset Ave. at 12:29 p.m. The Anoka County auto-aid program called for additional resources from Centennial and Lexington.

Centennial Chief 4 arrived at 12:34 and reported a smoke showing from the eves on the D-side of a 1 1/2-story, 40-by-70-foot pole barn.  He assumed command and passed it to SBM Chief 3 on arrival, who called for an offensive attack.

SBM Operations Chief Garrett Parten said the barn was at the end of a 450-foot driveway in an non-hydranted area. It contained several vehicles, including a camper and boat.

SBM Tanker 3 and a Centennial Engine were positioned for water supply and to provide relay pumping from the the street. Engine 11 laid a five-inch supply line to the scene. Crews prepared dump tanks for water suppy.

Engine 8’s crews deployed a 2 1/2-inch attack line to the A-side of the building.

“Smoke in the initial room inside the door was banked to within three feet of the floor,” Parten told Twin Cities Fire Wire.  “As the crew entered through another door into the main storage area, they encountered a vehicle fire.”

The fire was knocked down and ventilation operations commenced. The fire was under control at 12:53 p.m.

An additional tanker from Ham Lake was requested, but cancelled after the fire was extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

March 29 – Firefighters from the North Metro were called to a reported barn fire in Blaine on Tuesday afternoon.

Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View fire crews, along with auto-aid, were dispatched to the 12200 block of Sunset Avenue about 1 p.m. Centennial Chief 4 went on scene with smoke showing from a 1 1/2-story pole barn.

Shortly after arrival, he reported an explosion from the structure.

Tankers from Centennial, Ham Lake and Lexington were brought in because of the lack of hydrants.

The fire was contained within 15 minutes.

Firefighters quickly contained a kitchen fire before it spread at a Blaine home on Tuesday night.

Fire crews were called at 11525 Monroe St. Northeast around 7:30 p.m.

Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View (SFDBM) Chief 7 went on scene with smoke showing from the split-level home. Upon investigation, Chief 7 reported a kitchen fire and that the home was evacuated.

Engine 11 arrived and pulled a pre-connect. The crew quickly contained the fire to the kitchen.

Ladder 17 arrived and performed ventilation and overhaul in the fire area.

Additional crews were released shortly after the fire was placed under control.

Semi Rolls, Catches Fire in Mound View

A semi-truck rolled over early Monday, erupting in flames and closing two main thoroughfares in Mounds View.

The truck, hauling french fries, rolled as it exited Highway 10 to Interstate 35W around 1 a.m.

The driver escaped the truck with minor burns.

WCCO to Feature Twin Cities Fire Wire Photos at 6 Tonight

Photos from the Twin Cities Fire Wire coverage of the Blaine church fire last month will be featured on WCCO during their 6 p.m. broadcast tonight.

WCCO is running a story on Minneapolis-based TetraKO, whose product helped knock down the fire.

TetraKO is a Class A water additive that turns water into an adhering liquid. It can be used in current fire pumps without any special equipment.

Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View (SBM) firefighter used the TetraKO in their initial attack at the Oak Park Community Church on Dec. 28.

The press release states: “After initially hitting the fire and hot spots with TetraKO, I advised division command to discontinue application and allow TetraKO’s steamconversion to occur,” said (Fire Chief Nyle) Zikmund. “Almost immediately, the steam cloud increased dramatically in size, and remained for an extended period of time. Crews continued to monitor and listen with no further evidence of fire.”

Twin Cities Fire Wire was at the scene of the fire as SBM units started flowing water.

Ashes Ignite Spring Lake Park Fire

Discarded ashes are being blamed for a garage fire in Spring Lake Park on Thursday evening.

Spring Lake Park – Mounds View – Blaine units were dispatched to the 600 block of 79th Avenue about 8 p.m. Units arrived to find smoke coming from the garage attached to a two-story, split-level home.

“There was a lot of smoke, but it was knocked down pretty quick,” SBM Operations Chief Garrett Parten told Twin Cities Fire Wire.

Firefighter checked for extension and none was found. The fire was held to the area of origin in the garage.

  • Assignment: Engines 1, 2, 3, 6, Ladders 12 and 17, Command Vehicle, Utility 16 and Chiefs 3, 5 and 6.

Fire damaged the Oak Park Community Church in Blaine Tuesday night.

Crews from Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View (SBM) fire were called to the church, at 12050 Aberdeen St. Northeast, about 8:30 p.m.

A SBM chief went on scene and reported fire showing from side-D and a possible attic fire in the multi-level church.

Arriving companies had trouble located hydrants. They laid supply lines and stretch pre-connected handlines to the exterior.

Ladder 17 positioned the aerial ladder to the roof and took out the skylights for vertical ventilation.

Crews knocked down the main body of fire on the exterior and then proceeded with an offensive attack in about 15 minutes.

Firefighters performed extensive overhaul of the church after the fire was under control.
