Blast Blows Brooklyn Park Duplex Apart

June 1 – An explosion caused extensive damage to a Brooklyn Park duplex on Wednesday.

Around 1:45 p.m. fire crews from Brooklyn Park, with auto aid from Osseo, were called to 7505 Kentucky Ave. for a reported explosion.

Fire units arrived to find that the walls two sides of the home were blown out. Photos from KSTP-TV show the extent of the damage.

Minneapolis Fire Crews Tame Arson Fire Before it Spreads

May 17 –Officials say that a two-alarm fire in North Minneapolis on Tuesday is arson.

Fire crews were called to 2314 Dupont Ave. N. just after 5 p.m. and crews found heavy fire and smoke showing from the rear of the two-story duplex.

According to the Extra Alarm Association Facebook page, Engine 4 laid an attack line Engine 14 deployed a backup line after securing a water supply.

Fire was on the first and second floors and involving the attic.

Ladder 4’s crew positioned the aerial ladder to the roof of the structure and Ladder 10 conducted primary searches.

Engine 2 laid a supply line to Ladder 4, the Extra Alarm Association reported. Shortly after, they went into a defensive attack as flames were shooting from the roof.

“Due to the close proximity to other structures, a second alarm was called to get additional resources on scene,” Assistant Chief Cherie Penn said. Engines 16 and 11, with Rescue 9 were dispatched.

As crews battled the fire from the outside, Engine 16 laid a supply line to the scene.

After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews reentered the structure to pull ceilings and walls to find the hot spots.

Penn said “there was more than one point of origin,” and the Minneapolis police are further investigating the fire. and as such a point of origin has not been determined.

April 6 – Andover firefighters responded to a duplex fire on Wednesday evening.

Firefighters were called to the 13800 Block of Silverod Court around 8 p.m.

Chief 1 went on scene with smoke showing from the side-by-side duplex and reported that all residents had evacuated the structure.

Engine 11’s crew deployed a pre-connected hoseline to the front of the structure and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Crews cleared the scene in about 30 minutes.

Assignment: Engines 11, 21, 22, 31, Ladder 11, Chiefs 1 and 4 and Allina EMS

St. Paul Duplex Fire Displaces 7

March 10 – A man alerted St. Paul residents to a house fire early Thursday by throwing a bottle at their window.

Firefighters were called to 1259 Charles Ave. at 2:36 a.m. They arrived to find smoke from the 2 1/2-story duplex.

KSTP-TV reported that a man heard alarms sounding and when he found the fire “he then called 911 and tossed the bottle at an upstairs window to wake the people inside up.”

Crews located the fire in the basement and knocked it down.

The fire was held to the room of origin, but the first floor received heavy smoke damage.

Seven residents were displaced by the fire, which caused $75,000 in damage.

Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said the fire was caused by careless smoking.
