Inver Grove Heights crews freed a person who was trapped after a head-on collision involving a tractor trailer Monday afternoon.

Firefighters and medics from HealthEast were dispatched to a head-on collision on Robert Trail (Highway 3) at 80th Street at 1:30 p.m. As units went enroute, they were advised that a tractor trailer collided with a vehicle.

Chief 1 found the accident about a mile south of the intersection at a sharp curve. A steady snowfall since morning left the roads filled with slush and slippery.

The force of the collision spun the four-dour SUV around and pinned the female driver.

Firefighters from Inver Grove Heights Rescue 10 and Engine 11 worked for 10 minutes with the cutters and spreaders to free her, according to Fire Chief Judy Thill.

She was packaged and transported by HealthEast to Regions Hospital with leg and arm injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

A female survived an approximately 40 foot fall after her vehicle drove off the Highway 52 (Lafayette) bridge Sunday afternoon.

St. Paul firefighters were called to 5th Street, under the bridge, about 2 p.m.

They arrived to find the Jeep Liberty on its wheels with heavy impact damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

They removed the occupant via passenger door.

The man who called 9-1-1 told Twin Cities Fire Wire that he was on his way to plow near the scene when they came across the vehicle. “I couldn’t believe it. She drove right off, right from up there,” as he pointed to an areas that had been visibly disrupted in the high wall of snow along the barrier wall.

He said she had been in the car at least 45 minutes when he found here.

The vehicle went off the bridge in the southbound lane less than 100 feet from the Interstate 94 entrance ramp. Fresh tire tracks could be seen in the snow where the vehicle went off Sunday afternoon.
