Firefighters found a vacant home fully involved on arrival in Vadnais Heights early on Thursday morning.

Assistant Chief Tim Birr said that when he arrived around 1:20 a.m., “fire was coming through the roof in the main part
of the home and the garage area.” The 2 1/2-story home with attached garage, in the 200 block of Meadowood Lane, was in foreclosure and vacant.

Vadnais Height Ladder 11 and Lake Johanna Engine 2, on automatic aid, arrived at the same time an initiated a defensive attack. Crews secured a hydrant in front of the home
positioned handlines to stop the fire spread on either side of the home.

“The fire was impinging on both¬†of the neighboring homes,” Birr told TwinCitiesFireWire.com.

Firefighters set up Ladder 11’s aerial ladder for a master stream operation to knock down the fire.

Birr said the fire was knocked down in about 25 minutes.

Additional mutual aid was received from White Bear Lake and Little Canada. The weather was a factor in calling for additional resources,” according to Birr.

No injuries were reported. About 35 firefighters staffing nine units responded to the fire and units cleared the scene by 5 a.m.
