A resident was injured by a two-alarm fire in South St. Paul on Wednesday afternoon.

South Metro Fire was dispatched for a reported house fire in the 400 block of 12th Avenue North at 2:43 p.m.

As fire units were responding, they received a report from police that fire was coming from one window of the home. Chief 1 called a second alarm to bring off-duty personnel back.

Engine 2 arrived at 2:47 to find fire and smoke showing from the A/B-corner of the 1 1/2-story home.

Two 1 3/4-inch hoselines were brought to the rear entrance and Engine 2 and Ladder 2 made a positive pressure attack, according to Assistant Fire Chief Mark Erickson.

Engine 1 arrived and established a water supply for Engine 2 from a nearby hydrant. The crew then stretched a backup 1 3/4-inch line to the rear.

The lone resident of the home escaped the fire and suffered minor injuries. HealthEast Ambulance treated and transported him to United Hospital.

Ambulance 1’s crew assumed rapid intervention duties.

The fire was under control by 3:02 and Erickson said it was confined to two rooms with slight extension into the attic.

Engine 22 and Ladder 1 responded on the second alarm and Engine 12 was staffed to cover the stations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
